FIDE WORLD TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP WILL BE HELD IN ASTANA

FIDE World Team Championship will take place from March 4th -15th, 2019 in Astana, in which the strongest national teams of 14 countries whose chess federations dominated their continent will participate in the championship. For the first time in the history both Open Team and Women’s Team Championships will be held in Kazakhstan.

Time: March 4th –March 15th
Venue: International Financial Center “Astana”

20 teams will play in the tournament – 10 men’s and 10 women’s teams from China, Azerbaijan, Iran, USA, Egypt, Russia, Poland, England, India, Ukraine, Georgia, Hungary, Armenia and Kazakhstan.

Every team requires a Team captain, 4 players and 1 reserve player. The championship will be played in round robin system with 9 rounds. More than a hundred chess players, arbiters and guests will take part in the tournament. FIDE Presidential Board meeting will be held during the championship.

In each section, qualification for Teams is done according to the following criteria:

  • Defending World Team Champion.
  • Four (4) Continental Champions: the winners of the respective most recent Continental Championships
  • Three (3) highest ranked teams from the FIDE Olympiad 2018.
  • Team from HF.
  • Team nominated by the FIDE President
