Dear judges and fans!

Here, in the beautiful resort town of Schuchinsk, young men and women, the hopes of Kazakhstan’s sport, gathered to play the championship of Kazakhstan in different age categories. Some of you already have the experience of participating in major tournaments, but for the others this is their first.  I hope and wish you that this is a successful start for you.

I believe that, regardless of age, each of the players will do their best to win, and that it is a fair play.  I sincerely wish you all, without exception, to show the best game.

Aeroflot Open 2016


The 13th Aeroflot Open runs from 1-10 March, 2016 in the Cosmos Hotel in Moscow. The A Open, for players rated 2550 and above, sees Boris Gelfand and Wei Yi among those fighting for the 18,000 EUR first prize and a place in the Dortmund 2016 Supertournament, while the total prize fund for the three opens and blitz tournament on 10 March is 140,000 EUR.
Players have 100 minutes for 40 moves, then 50 minutes for the next 20 moves and 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment from move 1. If players tie for first two blitz games and potentially Armageddon will be played. The event is sponsored by Aeroflot and organised by the Russian Chess Federation and the Association of Chess Federations.

Women’s World Chess Championship Match – Opening Ceremony



The Women’s World Chess Championship Match between Mariya Muzychuk (Ukraine) and Hou Yifan (China) is being held from 1-19th March, 2016, at the Potocki Palace in Lviv, Ukraine.
The opening ceremony and drawing of lots took place last night at the Lviv Opera House. Hou Yifan was the first to pick the colour and she got black pieces. Muzychuk will play with white in the first game of the match.
Zhytta ballet, violin virtuoso Olexandr Bozhyk, quartet Tenors Bel’canto, Holos Krainy Show star Khrystyna Soloviy, and street performance of Voskresinnya Theatre have performed during the ceremony.
Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi, President of Ukrainian Chess Federation Olexandr Kapustin and FIDE Deputy President Georgios Makropoulos delivered the opening speeches.
The first of ten games is set to take place on 2nd March from 15:00 local time.
