9TH ASIAN SENIORS CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018

The Asian Championship Among Seniors was held under the  auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE from 2 to 12 of November, 2018 in the city of Tagaytay, the Philippines.

Championship participants were divided into several categories:
1. Men over 50;
2. Men over 65;
3. Women over 50.

The tournament was held according to the Swiss system in 9 rounds.
According to the results of the competition, three winners were determined in each of the categories: classic, rapid and blitz chess tournaments.

Kazakhstan was represented by five chess players at this competition:

  • Oleg Rinas – FIDE master, ELO rating – 2 429, Karaganda.
  • Kuanyshbek Zhumadullaev , ELO rating – 2 204.
  • Aitkazy Baymurzin – international master, ELO rating – 2 154, Taraz.
  • Timur Kasymov, ELO rating – 1 949.
  • Almagul Chakeeva, ELO rating – 1 658, Ust-Kamenogorsk.

Kazakhstani athletes took a total of 5 medals from the Philippines, three of which won Almagul Chakeeva.

In addition to gold in the rapid chess tournament among women, Almagul took two silver medals in blitz and classical chess tournaments. Oleg Rinas from Karaganda became the bronze medalist in the classical chess tournament, Aitkazy Baymurzin from Taraz took the bronze in rapid chess tournament.
