Zhansaya Abdumalik received an invitation from «Saint Louis Chess Club» to take part in the women’s tournament «Cairns Cup 2019». The organizers chose 10 of the strongest chess players of the planet, regardless of age, and personally invited them to the United States for an elite chess tournament.
“Honestly, I didn’t even expect to receive this invitation,” Zhansaya admits, “to enter the top ten in the world according to the «Saint Louis Chess Club» and represent Kazakhstan there is not only a great honor, but also a serious responsibility.
The tournament «Cairns Cup 2019» will be held for the first time and will become traditional. The competition starts February 2 at the famous Chess Club in St. Louis, Missouri. Players will play in a round-robin system.
“This is the highest level competition,” said Irina Grishchenko, Executive Director of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, “Zhansaya is not only the only representative of Kazakhstan, but also the youngest participant in the tournament, but her previous games at the world championships show that the experience of the rivals is not a hindrance to our girls.
The prize fund of the competition will be $ 150,000, which is the largest amount in the history of women’s round-robin tournaments. Cash prizes are guaranteed for all participants: $ 40,000 for first place and $ 5,000 for tenth.
