The new chess season of 2019 opens the Championship of Kazakhstan in Classic Chess , rapid and blitz among children from 6 to 18 years old, which starts on January 5 in Pavlodar. About 700 young athletes from all regions of Kazakhstan will compete for a prize fund of more than 3 million tenge.

The Republic Championship traditionally gathers the strongest chess players in the country — winners of both regional qualifying competitions and winners of World Championships, Asia and the Republic. One of the favorites of the tournament will be Asel Serikbay, Kazybek Nogerbek, Ramazan Zhalmakhanov, who received a personal right to participate in the Championship due to high results in last year’s world competitions.

“Chess does not tolerate interruptions, so it’s great to start the year with a serious tournament,” says Assel Serikbay. “A large number of opponents guarantee that the tournament will be interesting, and regardless of the outcome of the competition, each of us will acquire new skills and invaluable experience.”

The championship will be held on the Swiss system in 9 rounds separately for boys and girls. The tournament will run until January 16th. The winners in classical chess, rapid chess and blitz will be determined within each of the seven age categories: up to 6, 8, 10, 12, 14,16 and 18 years old.

“The  Championship of Republic of Kazakhstan opens up great opportunities for young chess players,” says the Executive Director of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, Irina Grishchenko, “After all, owners of gold and silver medals will receive a ticket to the World Championships and Asia 2019, respectively. And bronze winners will receive a priority right to participate in the Championship of Western Asia among juniors. ”
