The World Youth Chess Championships 2018 ended yesterday in Greece, bringing Kazakhstan a total of five medals, one of which is gold. On October 30, the final games of the classics were played on the island of Halkidiki, which added to the collection of the national team with another bronze won by fourteen years old Kazybek Nogerbek from Astana.
It should be noted that a week earlier in the framework of this tournament, Kazakhstan’s contestants already won 4 awards. Asel Serikbay from Kyzylorda became the best in the blitz among girls under 16 years old. Two silver of our team were brought by Denis Makhnev from Pavlodar and Meruert Kamalidenov from Astana. A native of Almaty, Ramazan Zhalmakhanov became the bronze medalist in the Rapid.
“It was a fierce game. Classics itself imply increased passions. Apart from strategic skills, we are required to show endurance and a great stress resistance. Moreover, the final stages of the competition always impose additional responsibility on the players, because this is the final straight, where you can get ahead in the last seconds, ” shared Kazybek.
The World Youth Chess Championships is one of the world’s largest children’s chess championships, which annually brings together the best players from all over the world. This year a record number of participants took part in the competition – 651 chess players from 79 countries, including 8 grandmasters, 48 international masters and 157 FIDE masters.
“The classics have been played, the results have been summed up, and we are very pleased with them,” commented the head coach of the children’s and junior chess team of the Republic of Kazakhstan, grandmaster Anuar Ismagambetov. “We proved once again that our champions are the best not only in the country, but also one of the strongest in the world. The results of the tournaments show that our land gives birth to the most talented children, and the Kazakhstan school of chess trains brilliant students. They will return home as heroes. Pride for parents, the federation and the country! ”
The Kazakhstani national team was represented by ten young chess players, five of whom became championship winners.
