YOUTH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN GREECE

The World Chess Championship was held in the age categories under 14, 16 and 18 years old from October 17 to October 30, in the Greek city of Chalkidiki.

The World Youth Chess Championships 2018 is one of the world’s largest chess championships, which annually brings together the best players from all over the world. This year a record number of participants took part in the championship – 651 chess players from 79 countries, including 8 grandmasters, 48 international masters and 157 FIDE masters.
In the framework of the Championship, chess players played blitz, rapid and classical games.

Kazakhstan was represented by 13 young chess players:

In the category of up to 14 years old:

Egorov Mikhail, ELO rating – 1 941, Pavlodar.
Nurgali Nazerkes, ELO rating – 2 263, Kyzylorda.
Kamalidenova Meruert, ELO rating – 1 999, Astana.
Kurmangaliyeva Liya, ELO rating – 1 733, Almaty.

In the category of up to 14 years old:

Zhalmakhanov Ramazan, ELO rating – 2 316, Almaty.
Bekturov Tamerlan, ELO rating – 2 297
Serikbay Asel, ELO rating – 2 166, Kyzylorda.

In the category of up to 18 years old:

Makhnev Denis, ELO rating – 2 442, Pavlodar.
Agmanov Zhandos, ELO rating – 2 354, Astana
Baurzhan Arnash, ELO rating – 2 011, Almaty
Muratova Saltanat, ELO rating – 1 859, Shymkent.

The championship was opened by a two-day fast chess tournament.
Then, blitz chess competition was held on October 19,
and the main tournament in classical chess took place from October 20 to October 30.

The World Youth Chess Championships 2018 brought Kazakhstan a total of five medals, one of which was a gold one.
According to the results of rapid and blitz chess tournaments, Kazakhstani athletes won 4 awards.

Asel Serikbay from Kyzylorda became the best in the blitz chess tournament among girls under 16 years old. Two silvers of our team were brought  by Denis Makhnev (under 18) from Pavlodar and Meruert Kamalidenova (under 14) from Astana.
Ramazan Zhalmakhanov from Almaty became the bronze medalist in rapid chess tournament in the age category of up to 14 years old.
According to the results of the classical chess tournament, bronze was won by 14 years old Kazybek Nogerbek from Astana.
