The Pavlodar Open tournament will be held from November 23 to December 2, 2018, under the auspices of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation. This is a large-scale world-class project that annually gathers intellectual game professionals and amateurs from near and far abroad, which this time will compete for a prize fund of 3 million tenge.

This year the event will be attended by over 100 participants from Russia, Belarus, Spain, Belgium, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. Among them – 12 grandmasters, 7 international masters, 7 FIDE masters and 2 candidates for master of sports. The fact of the visit of titled chess players of international level will allow the participants of the tournament to fulfill new international standards, receiving next sports titles.

“It has already become a good tradition to welcome chess sports fans from different countries in Pavlodar,” says the Executive Director of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, Irina Grishchenko, “It will be the 13th such competition, which is held in this city, and we are pleased that Pavlodar has established itself as one of the centers of the national chess sport”.

The competitions will be held on the Swiss system in 10 rounds. Time control: 90 minutes before the end of the match game with the addition of 30 seconds for each move, starting with the first. Competitions are held according to FIDE rules.

“Open tournaments in Kazakhstan have already become a landmark event not only for domestic chess players, but also for guests of the republic,” the four-time Champion of the Republic of Kazakhstan, grandmaster Peter Kostenko is convinced, “Each such competition is an absolute personal growth for an athlete. Playing with the strongest representatives of foreign schools is the useful way out of the “comfort zone”. And even if someone fails to get the coveted awards or new titles, the experience taken here will be invaluable”.

The Pavlodar Open program also includes activities for children, parents and coaches. As part of the chess festival, blitz chess tournaments, simultaneous play sessions and master classes from renowned masters will be held. There will also be a chess shop within the walls of the House of Chess, in which it will be possible to purchase chess equipment, as well as thematic literature and paraphernalia.

Traditionally, from 2016 Pavlodar Open is the third stage of the Cup of the Republic of Kazakhstan among men and women.

Winners of competitions are determined according to the highest number of points scored in all games. In case of equality of points for two or more participants, the winners are determined in accordance with the following additional indicators:
a) Buchholz coefficient
b) personal meeting
c) the number of victories

Pavlodar Open enters the Cup of the Republic of Kazakhstan among men and women. According to its results points will be credited. The participant who showed the best result among chess players of Pavlodar region, is declared the Champion of Pavlodar region in classical chess in 2018.
