The World Chess Championship for participants up to 20 years of age starts on September 5, 2018 in the Turkish City of Gebze. 9 Kazakhstani athlets participate in the tournament, four of them as official participants from the Kazakhstan Chess Federation.
The championship is divided into an open tournament in which participate 168 athletes from 61 countries and a competition among girls – 99 chess players from 45 countries of the world.

- FM (FIDE Master) Denis Makhnev, ELO rating – 2449 (Pavlodar City),
- WFM (Woman FIDE master) Asel Serikbay, 2125 (Kyzylorda City),
- WCM (Woman Candidate Master) Nurgali Nazerke, 2080 (Kyzylorda City),
- FM Alisher Suleimenov, 2307 (Pavlodar City).
WFM Meruert Kamalidenova, 2 011 (Astana City), FM Zhandos Agmanov, 2 379 (Astana City), CM Arystanbek Urazaev, 2 333 (Aktobe City), FM Kazybek Nogerbek, 2 261 (Astana City), CM Sauat Nurgaliyev, 1 685 (Astana City) also will compete for prizes in the world championship.
The winners of the tournament have the right to receive the title of the Grandmaster (GM), silver and bronze medalists – international male master (IM).
The World Championship will be held on the Swiss system in 11 rounds. The total prize fund of the tournament is 10 000 euros, the prize for the first place in the open tournament is 3 000 euro, among the girls – 2 000 euro. The tournament will last until September 16.
Let us recall that IM Zhansaya Abdumalik performed brilliantly (2 482 ELO) in World Championship for participants up to 20 years of age held last year in the Italian city of Tarvisio. As a result of 11 rounds, she scored 9.5 points, ahead of Anastasiya Paramazina (Russia) and Jennifer Yu (USA), and she won a gold medal.
